The Security Portfolio Sales Representative works independently and functions as the leader of a team of sales specialists, guiding and mentoring others. In this capacity, s/he will serve as an expert in the offerings of the specialty with a breadth of knowledge in other product lines. In addition to achieving personal business objectives, the Security Portfolio Sales Specialist assures that sales of the set of specialty offerings meets assigned objectives within the business unit, area / country, or industry unit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-functional teams covering large, complex opportunities, negotiating with the highest levels of customer management. This professional is responsible for the unit sales strategy and gathering requirements, and provides advice to sales and development executives. This Sales Specialist anticipates potential problems, is predominantly guided by business directives, and has latitude to define priorities and resources for sales opportunities.
  • Maintain expert technical sales knowledge of specialty offerings and has breadth of knowledge in disciplines / specialists and other IBM specialties and IBM Business Partner offerings.
  • Maintain expert skills in engaging and closing sales opportunities, including in-depth financial acquisition skills. Demonstrates required proficiency levels for technical and sales skills, as defined for incumbents in this position.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert pertaining to the management and / or sales processes, techniques, and tools associated with the specialty offerings, and guides others in their use. Identifies and implements improvements to them. Examples of these techniques and tools include, but are not limited to, opportunity / territory management, cost justification, acquisition management, service business management and channel management processes.
  • Guide and mentor less experienced Sales Specialists within the discipline.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of competition in the specialty -- the company, its strategies, and its products / services.
  • Effectively differentiate IBM offerings from competitive alternatives and creates customer preference for company’s offerings on that differentiation. This role requires the employee to be comfortable serving as the primary source of competitive knowledge within the specialty and their business unit.
